All the Recce Mission, Jammie and Light Duty events start at Highland Gate on the edge of the Eastern Escarpment near Dullstroom in Mpumalanga. All the events finish at Fort Mission at Dullstroom.
The Jammie events are support events on the Recce Mission routes. ‘Jammie’ is the terminology used for Special Forces support personnel that are not directly involved in a mission. The Light Duty events also support the Recce Mission events.

Mountain bikers can participate in the MTB events in the following categories:
– MTB Mission: ‘Heavy’ (solo) or ‘Small Team’ of 2 mountain bikers
– MTB Jammie and Light Duty: Solo
|MTB Mission||Mountain bikers will cover about 220 km on tar, district, railway service, forest and farm roads, as well as Jeep track and single track.
The total elevation gain is approximately 4000 meters with the minimum altitude at 1200 meters ASL and the highest point at 2332 meters ASL.
The MTB Mission route has cut-offs along the route. To complete the Recce MTB Mission, mountain bikers need to –
– Complete the physically and mentally tough Recce MTB Mission within the allowable time of 24 hours
– Pass through several Check Points (called CPs) along the routes
MTB riders who do not make any of the time cut-offs have failed the mission. These MTB riders can continue as Jammies or they will be extracted and Returned-to-Unit (RTU
|MTB Jammie||Mountain bikers will complete 150 km of the Recce MTB Mission route. MTB Jammies have time cut-offs and a section might have to be done in the dark.|
|MTB Light Duty||Mountain bikers will complete 55 km of the Recce MTB Mission route. MTB Light Duty riders must complete this event during daytime.|
